I can see this lovely stone mortar sunk slightly into the ground for a bird bath.  It is quite deep so will need a stone or two in the base.  It would also make a lovely bowl for a small water feature perhaps overflowing into another or just again sunk in the ground in amongst the flowers of the border.  Just a simple and lovely item.
